Joe Suba never envisioned himself as a star in action films, yet his impressive filmography, featuring 13 movies in just a decade, tells a different story. Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Suba was an only child who embraced a disciplined lifestyle. His early passion for boxing and martial arts led him to achieve a black belt in karate at a young age.
His entry into the film industry was serendipitous. While training at a local boxing gym, renowned producer Roger Corman recognized Suba’s potential. Initially cast as a boxing extra in *Rage and Discipline* (2004), both Corman and director Brian Clyde quickly shifted gears, elevating him to the lead role and adding associate producer to his credits. The film, set against the gritty backdrop of New York, became a cult favorite among indie film aficionados.
In 2008, he starred in *Opium War*, directed by Siddiq Barmark, who previously earned a Golden Globe for *Osama* (2003). In this film, shot in Afghanistan, Suba portrayed a wounded American soldier alongside Peter Bussian. *Opium War* garnered the Best Foreign Film award at the 2008 Rome International Film Festival, and Suba himself received accolades as Best Actor at the Kish International Film Festival in Iran.
Most recently, he appeared in *Operation Rogue* (2014), another project under Corman’s banner, sharing the screen with talents like Marc Dacascos and Treat Williams.
