Timothy Geithner

Timothy Franz Geithner, born on August 18, 1961, is a distinguished American former central banker known for his impactful roles in U.S. financial policy during turbulent economic times. Serving as the 75th Secretary of the Treasury under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013, Geithner was pivotal in steering the country through the aftermath of the 2007-08 financial crisis and the ensuing Great Recession. Prior to his tenure as Treasury Secretary, he held the prestigious position of President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2003 to 2009, where he played a crucial role in managing financial crises involving major institutions such as Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and American International Group.

During his time as Secretary of the Treasury, Geithner was instrumental in implementing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), overseeing the allocation of $350 billion to stabilize the financial system following the subprime mortgage crisis.
