John Carty
John Carty is a prominent Irish musician renowned for his exceptional skills in traditional music. His proficiency spans several instruments, including the fiddle, tenor banjo, tenor guitar, and, on occasion, the flute. Carty’s deep appreciation for the North Connacht traditional music style has significantly influenced his work. Originally from London, he now resides in Boyle, County Roscommon.
Carty made a significant impact on the music scene with his debut fiddle album, *Last Night's Fun*, released in 1996 under Shanachie Records. This album is often heralded as a pivotal moment in the realm of recorded fiddle music.
In recognition of his contributions to traditional Irish music, Carty received the prestigious Traditional Musician of the Year award from the Irish television station TG4 in 2003, joining the ranks of esteemed predecessors like Matt Molloy and Paddy Keenan.
