Donald Sutherland

Donald McNichol Sutherland (July 17, 1935 – June 20, 2024) was a distinguished Canadian actor whose illustrious career spanned more than sixty years. Renowned for his versatility, Sutherland garnered eight Golden Globe nominations throughout his career, winning twice for his outstanding performances in the television films Citizen X (1995) and Path to War (2002), the latter also earning him a Primetime Emmy Award. His contributions to the film industry were recognized with an induction into both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Canadian Walk of Fame, along with a Canadian Academy Award for the drama Threshold (1981). Notably, many critics have regarded him as one of the greatest actors to have never received an Oscar nomination, a sentiment underscored when he was honored with an Academy Honorary Award in 2017. In 2021, he won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie/Miniseries for his role in HBO's The Undoing (2020).

Sutherland's rise to prominence began with iconic films such as The Dirty Dozen (1967), M*A*S*H (1970), and Klute (1971). He continued to impress audiences with roles in Don't Look Now (1973), Animal House (1978), and Ordinary People (1980), among others. His later work included significant performances in A Time to Kill (1996), The Italian Job (2003), and the beloved Hunger Games franchise (2012–2015). Sutherland was also a proud father to actors Kiefer, Rossif, and Angus Sutherland.
