Aesop Rock

Ian Matthias Bavitz, widely recognized by his stage name Aesop Rock, was born on June 5, 1976. He has made a significant impact on the American hip hop scene as both an artist and producer. Emerging during the late 1990s and early 2000s, Aesop Rock became a prominent figure in the underground and alternative hip hop movements. He is well-known for his intricate lyrics and unique vocal style, which have set him apart in a crowded genre.

Aesop Rock is affiliated with El-P's influential Definitive Jux label and is a key member of the collective known as The Weathermen. His moniker originated from a film role in which he portrayed a character named Aesop; the "Rock" was later added as a creative flourish within his rhymes.
