Prince Andrew, Duke of York
Andrew Albert Christian Edward Mountbatten-Windsor, born on February 19, 1960, is a prominent British royal, known as Prince Andrew, Duke of York. He is the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and is the younger brother of King Charles III. Initially second in line for the throne, he is expected to be eighth in succession by 2026.
Andrew's military career spanned over two decades, from 1979 to 2001, during which he served in the Royal Navy. He distinguished himself as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War and later took on roles as a helicopter instructor and warship commander. In 1986, he married Sarah Ferguson, and on their wedding day, he was granted the title Duke of York. The couple had two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, before separating in 1992 and finalizing their divorce in 1996.
From 2001 to 2011, Andrew acted as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. However, he resigned due to scrutiny surrounding his associations with controversial figures. His links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have led to significant public backlash. In 2022, Andrew settled a civil lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre, who alleged misconduct, while denying any wrongdoing. Following this, Queen Elizabeth II stripped him of military titles and patronages, and in 2025, King Charles III further limited his royal privileges. In 2026, he faced arrest under suspicions related to misconduct in public office.
