Don Stewart

Donald Bruce Stewart (November 14, 1935 – January 9, 2006) was an accomplished American actor renowned for his enduring portrayal of attorney Mike Bauer on the iconic soap opera Guiding Light. His involvement with the series spanned from 1968 until 1984, with a notable return in 1997 that delighted fans.

Originally hailing from Staten Island, New York, Stewart spent his formative years in Norfolk, Nebraska. His early career included six years of service as a pilot in the United States Air Force, followed by time in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve.

Stewart’s artistic journey began with opera studies in New York City, where he gained valuable experience as an understudy to the celebrated Robert Goulet in the Broadway production of Camelot. In addition to his work on Guiding Light, Stewart showcased his talents in musical theater and nightclubs, as well as appearing in various episodes of the classic 1960s television series Dragnet.

After his tenure at Guiding Light, he moved to California, where he made guest appearances on popular shows such as L.A. Law, Highway to Heaven, and Knots Landing. He also lent his voice to the character Clem in the animated feature Rover Dangerfield (1991). His final television appearance came in a 2001 episode of JAG.

Despite being a nonsmoker, Stewart sadly succumbed to lung cancer in Santa Barbara, California, at the age of 70. He is survived by his second wife and two daughters from his first marriage.
