He earned the charming nickname "The Continental Dreamboat," reflecting his appeal and charisma. In 1964, Lawrence made a significant mark by performing in Paris, showcasing his talents on an international stage.

The following year, he embarked on a successful nationwide tour as part of the "Teen 'N Tea Caravan," an initiative sponsored by the Tea Council of the U.S.A., which aimed at promoting tea consumption among the youth. This tour helped solidify his presence in the entertainment industry and connect with a younger audience.

In 1968, Lawrence took on a pivotal role as the director of the Harlem Cultural Festival, an event that celebrated African American music and culture. This festival not only highlighted his leadership abilities but also reinforced his commitment to promoting cultural diversity through the arts.
