Alexander Chaplin
Alexander Chaplin, born on March 20, 1971, is a notable American actor recognized for his role as speechwriter James Hobert on the popular sitcom Spin City. He originally hails from New York City, where he was given the name Alexander Gaberman.
Following his success on Spin City, Chaplin continued to collaborate with the show's creator, Bill Lawrence, appearing in the medical comedy Scrubs. In this series, he portrayed a drug addict in the episode "My Moment of Un-Truth," where he attempts to deceive Elliot into providing him with prescription drugs. He later reappears in "My Rite of Passage," taking advantage of Jordan to secure money. Ultimately, his character evolves into a drug counselor in "My Scrubs," asserting that he has turned his life around.
Chaplin also showcased his acting skills in the long-running crime drama Law & Order, specifically in Season 14, Episode 1 titled "Bodies." He played the role of Timothy Schwimmer, a self-important yet principled legal-aid attorney tasked with defending a serial killer, portrayed by Ritchie Coster. During the trial, Chaplin’s character faces scrutiny for withholding information protected by attorney-client privilege.
In his formative years, Chaplin trained in the performing arts at the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center situated in upstate New York.
