Manned by 182 individuals, including an infantry company and civilians, it stood as Poland's lone stronghold at the Vistula River's entrance. Armed with only five sentries, a field cannon, two anti-tank guns, and four mortars, the outpost faced overwhelming odds. The film chronicles the brave stand of Westerplatte's defenders, who made history when the first shots of World War II echoed from their position.
