After serving time in prison for forgery, Johnny secures a position as a short-order cook at a bustling New York diner. He has a short-lived romance with waitress Cora but soon finds himself drawn to her friend and coworker, Frankie. Although Frankie is hesitant to embrace Johnny's advances at first, her best friend Tim encourages her to open her heart. Eventually, Frankie decides to give Johnny a shot, leading to unexpected developments in their relationship.
