Orphaned at a young age, Adelheid 'Heidi' finds herself in the care of her Aunt Detie, who takes her to live with her reclusive grandfather in the Swiss Alps, shunned due to a past murder accusation. Quickly adapting to her breathtaking surroundings, Heidi forms a bond with Peter, a local goatherd. Despite her grandfather's initial resistance to formal education, Detie insists on sending Heidi away to work as a companion for Clara, a disabled girl in Frankfurt. As Heidi navigates her new life, she longs for the freedom of the mountains and the warmth of her grandfather's love.
