Mary Bassett, recently widowed, struggles to keep her farm afloat with her three children. When a cunning letter from her eldest daughter prompts a visit from her estranged, affluent mother, Isabella, tensions rise. Mary resents her mother’s interference and well-meaning attempts to remedy their financial woes. As the family grapples with deeper emotional scars and a raging outbreak of scarlet fever, they must confront their past and seek healing beyond mere financial assistance. Ultimately, the path to mending their fractured relationships proves more challenging than expected.
