Mary Marshall, serving a six-year sentence for accidental manslaughter, receives a Christmas furlough to visit her uncle's family in a quaint Midwestern town. On her train journey, she encounters Zach Morgan, a troubled army sergeant on holiday leave from a military hospital. Though his physical injuries have healed, he battles post-traumatic stress disorder and experiences panic attacks. Amid the festive spirit, their connection deepens into romance. However, Mary struggles with her past and the impending return to prison, hesitant to reveal the truth about her circumstances to Zach.
