Set against the backdrop of 1979 Santa Barbara, Dorothea Fields, a resolute single mother in her 50s, navigates the challenges of raising her teenage son, Jamie, during a time of significant cultural upheaval. Seeking to instill values in him, she recruits two vibrant young women: Abbie, a rebellious punk artist living in her home, and Julie, a sharp-witted and daring neighbor. Together, they each contribute unique perspectives on life and love, shaping Jamie's journey through adolescence amidst the changing social landscape.
