Bounty hunter Luke Welsh arrives in town on the trail of a wanted criminal. When the fugitive draws his weapon first, Welsh is forced to shoot him dead. To claim his bounty, he requires a witness to confirm the kill, but the deceased was beloved by locals, and no one is willing to step forward. Tensions escalate when Welsh outdraws a local gunslinger, prompting a group of townsfolk to form a mob intent on avenging their fallen friend, putting Welsh's life in peril as he faces both the law and the townspeople's wrath.
