Private investigator Edward Mercer arrives in Venice to track down a man owed a reward for wartime assistance. However, his mission takes a dark turn when he is implicated in the murder of his local informant. As he races to exonerate himself, Mercer stumbles upon a tangled web of conspiracy, with even the magistrate appearing to conspire against him. With mounting suspicion, he begins to wonder if the very person he sought is orchestrating the sinister plot surrounding him. Mercer must navigate treachery to uncover the truth and prove his innocence.
