Isa and Marie grow close while toiling away in a French sweatshop, eventually sharing an apartment that Marie is looking after for a mother and daughter in the hospital. In her quest to escape a life of hardship, Marie becomes involved with Chriss, a nightclub owner whose wealth draws her in. Isa sees the relationship's emptiness and attempts to steer Marie away from him, but her meddling threatens to jeopardize their friendship.
