In "Animal Factory," Ron, a pampered suburban youth, is unconcerned about the marijuana charges hanging over him. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he is wrongfully portrayed as a drug dealer, leading to a five-year prison sentence at San Quentin State Prison. Ill-equipped for the harsh realities of prison life, Ron quickly becomes a target for both aggressive inmates and corrupt guards. Just when hope seems lost, he forms an unexpected bond with Earl, a seasoned inmate who takes it upon himself to safeguard Ron from the dangers of his new environment.
