In 2022, filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravičius returned to war-torn Mariupol, where he had previously documented the lives of its residents in 2015. Tragically, his life was cut short, but his producers and collaborators have dedicated themselves to preserving his vision and storytelling. With a background in anthropology, Kvedaravičius aimed to share an unfiltered perspective of the conflict, distancing himself from media sensationalism and political agendas. Mariupolis 2 powerfully captures the resilience of life amid destruction, presenting poignant images that blend sorrow with a glimmer of hope.
