Hanzo skillfully pries a confession from a spirit using his notorious tactics, thwarts a gang of thieves, and rekindles his bond with childhood friend Heisuke Takei. He extends his protection to progressive doctor Genan Sugino, who has publicly criticized their ruler. Along the way, he uncovers a secret society of young wives and a blind music instructor, all while outsmarting a corrupt official and undermining his authority right under his eyes.
