In 2011, Knox was acquitted due to DNA evidence, but the decision was overturned after a successful prosecutor appeal. A retrial in 2014 resulted in a guilty verdict, sentencing her to 28 years and six months. The ordeal concluded in March 2015 when Italy's highest court exonerated Knox and her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. Meanwhile, Rudy Guede, whose bloodstained fingerprints were found at the scene, was convicted of the murder and is serving a 16-year sentence.
