After being dismissed from the FBI for his aggressive approach with a suspect, Mark Kaminsky becomes the sheriff of a quiet North Carolina town. However, his life takes a turn when FBI Chief Harry Shannon, seeking revenge for his son's murder at the hands of mobster Patrovina, reaches out to Kaminsky. He offers him a chance to regain his position in the FBI if he can successfully infiltrate Patrovina's organization and bring the criminal down from within.
