After years of religious education, Gabriel arrives back in his hometown to assume the role of preacher. He finds a community riddled with vice, populated by drinkers and gamblers, including his younger brother Jim and sister-in-law Caroline. Determined to redeem the townsfolk, especially Jim and Caroline as they anticipate their first child, Gabriel embarks on a mission to rescue them from their destructive lifestyles. Along this journey, he encounters profound revelations that challenge his faith and the town's dynamics.
