Set against the backdrop of World War II, a German woman named Inga mysteriously vanishes, leading others to believe she has died. Her infant son is sent to an orphanage, where he is later adopted by a loving couple desperate for a child. Their joy is abruptly interrupted when Inga resurfaces, claiming her maternal rights and demanding her son back. The re-emergence of the mother complicates their lives, forcing everyone to confront the tangled emotions of love, loss, and the struggle for family.
