Montana sheep farmer Rebecca Yoder, freshly widowed, takes in fugitive Johnny Gault, who is nursing a gunshot wound. Her choice to harbor the outlaw clashes with the values of her strict Quaker community, leading to tension as a romance develops between them. As their bond deepens, Rebecca risks her reputation among her neighbors. However, when a malevolent rancher threatens the community's land, Gault's impressive sharpshooting may just turn the tide, proving his value and challenging the norms of Rebecca’s world.
