Eventually, William has no choice but to let her go. Soon after, Maya finds out that her publishing firm is being acquired, jeopardizing her deal. William, now with an exceptionally competent new assistant, is unwilling to take Maya back. Desperate, she seeks support from Joan, though she’s less than thrilled about returning to that role.
