A wandering samurai takes pity on a stray cat, only to find himself stuck with an uninvited furry companion. He decides the best course is to abandon the cat somewhere it can survive on its own. But soon after, fate calls him to protect the helpless, forcing him to reconsider his cold decision. The irony isn't lost on him—having turned his back on one innocent creature, he's now expected to defend another.
