A decade ago, retired civil engineer Bernie Ryan and his wife Ruth relocated their three children to the quaint seaside town of Paynesville in Victoria's Gippsland Lakes region. Known for his tinkering, Bernie has a workshop brimming with half-finished projects. Faced with the need for a new home and reluctant to hire a contractor, he decides to build it himself with a quirky industrial design, a tight budget, and a can-do spirit. Rallying his retired friends and utilizing an old crane, Bernie embarks on this ambitious journey. Although he's experienced with bridges and industrial work, this is his first house, and his laid-back approach creates challenges, especially when an inspector shows up unexpectedly. Ruth remains optimistic as Bernie attempts to keep costs low, hoping they can transition from their dilapidated shed to a proper home. Will Bernie's DIY endeavor result in success, or will it become an eyesore in the beautiful landscape of Paynesville?
