Gerald Phelps, a timid advertising artist, anxiously prepares for his long-awaited meeting with his pen pal, the stunning Mary Ellen Carson. To mask his insecurities, he mistakenly sent her a handsome photo of Peter when she asked for a picture. When Mary Ellen arrives, Christine complicates matters by introducing Peter as Gerald and vice versa. Meanwhile, Ted Travers learns that Sandy Leonard, a girl he once dated, is now engaged to his father, Randall Travers. Randall wants Ted to join his business, but Ted declines the offer. Additionally, former football star Fred Hampton, now a bellman at St. Gregory Hotel after an injury, tries to steer clear of ex-teammate Perry Walker, who is holding a reunion.
