James Earl Jones portrays Gabe Wilson, a struggling jazz pianist and an old friend of Mark’s, attempting to rebuild his life after a heart attack. Gabe rekindles a romance with Ellie, a religious widow who faces challenges in connecting with her daughter, Vanessa, who aspires to be a rock vocalist. When Gabe encourages Vanessa to chase her dreams, it unintentionally deepens the existing rift between mother and daughter. After Vanessa unexpectedly leaves home, Ellie vents her frustration at Gabe, accusing him of being blind as punishment for his past mistakes. It falls to Jonathan to mend the relationship between Ellie and Vanessa and guide them back to understanding.
