After James' unexpected visit, Frederick throws himself into his tasks at the foundry, trying to shake off the encounter. Meanwhile, Clara discovers a sense of belonging with a new circle of friends introduced to her by Dr. Ellerby. In the meantime, a despondent James looks for comfort in other places.
