Guadalcanal/Leckie (S01E01)

Shortly after the Japanese strike on Pearl Harbor, Marine Sergeant John Basilone gears up for deployment to face the enemy in the Pacific. Meanwhile, aspiring journalist Robert Leckie joins the Marine Corps. Eugene Sledge, who is disqualified due to a heart murmur, bids farewell to his close friend Sidney Phillips, who is set to begin boot camp. Eight months post-Pearl Harbor, the 1st Marine Division, featuring Leckie and Phillips, arrives on Guadalcanal to capture its crucial airfield and brace for the anticipated counteroffensive.
