While playing by a creek, Laura discovers a bottle containing a note that simply says, "Be my friend." Excited, she persuades Pa to help her track down the sender. Their search leads them to a baby abandoned nearby. Charles then sets out to locate the child’s parents, discovering they are teenagers. The young mother had left her baby with the Ingalls because her father disapproved of her relationship with the baby's father. Ultimately, the young couple reclaims their child, hoping to make a fresh start together.
