Mary begins to perceive light and dark, leading the Ingalls family to hope she might be recovering her sight. However, a visit to the specialist reveals that a brain impulse is the reason she sees light when she feels the sun's warmth through a window. While Mary is away, Albert and Laura work on renovating Mr. Edwards' former home. They find that the only available paint colors at the mercantile are pink and purple. When Mary returns and chats with Laura in the old cabin, Laura shares their plans for a clubhouse. Mary expresses relief that she can't see the room after learning about the color choices.
