Syd resolutely rebuffs the romantic overtures of a charming businessman (guest star David Lee Smith) whose family has ties to organized crime, but the extravagant gifts he presents start to wear on her resolve while she’s at the clinic. Meanwhile, she examines a sick landscaper (guest star Tim Ransom) whom she suspects may be suffering from pesticide poisoning. In the Hansen household, Joanie worries about her boyfriend/business partner’s lack of interest in her young daughter just before her shop opens; Jim enjoys helping Lilly construct an elaborate Rube Goldberg machine for a school project; and Robbie begins to see Jim's clumsy veterinary assistant in a new light.
