After Pikachu has recovered, Ash is eager to travel to Oldale Town to register for the Hoenn League. May offers to guide him there in return for his company, especially since Pikachu caused damage to her bike when he was unwell. Upon arriving in Oldale Town, May is thrilled to explore her first Pokémon Center and is captivated by the nearby ancient ruins. However, their excitement quickly fades when Team Magma, a shadowy group of criminals, cuts off the electricity at the center and abducts Professor Alden to pursue the ruins. With the power out, all Pokémon, including May's Torchic, are at risk. It falls to Ash and May to rescue them, leading to the discovery of ancient, enigmatic Pokémon.
