In the summer of 1931, Chicago buzzes with activity as Nick Acropolis establishes himself as the city’s premier bookmaker, controlling bets across Illinois and the six neighboring states on everything from horse races to boxing matches and sports events. By August, his operation is raking in an impressive $2 million a month. This draws the attention of Eliot Ness and his team of Untouchables, who are hot on his trail. Enrico Rossi taps into one of Nick’s betting spots, managed by Sully Hinds. Meanwhile, Nick confronts his brother-in-law Louis Manzak, the bookkeeper, who has embezzled $200,000 from him to place a side bet on a boxing match—with disastrous results.
