To his men, he was just der Rittmeister - The Captain. To everyone else, he was known as "The Red Baron," a legendary figure and the ultimate fighter ace. Throughout World War I, he claimed more enemy aircraft than any other German pilot. On April 21, 1918, he was shot down. Although he brought his tri-plane down safely, he succumbed to his injuries before Australian soldiers reached him. Was it the Australians who dealt the fatal blow, or a bullet from one of the RAF pilots chasing him relentlessly?
