The detective frustrates his higher-ups by attempting to link a figure from Edinburgh's underworld to the shooting incident involving two boys and a teacher at a nearby college. One of the boys is revealed to be the son of Rebus's cousin, providing Templar with a solid justification to remove him from the investigation.
