Freelance architect Elyse Keaton hires her friend Suzanne Davis to take care of administrative tasks, but soon regrets it as she realizes Suzanne is underqualified and overly assertive. Just as Elyse contemplates letting her go, Suzanne's marriage falls apart, making her new job crucial for her stability. After two decades devoted to being a housewife, Suzanne struggles to find her own identity. While Elyse tries to help her friend during this mid-life crisis, Suzanne's overzealous approach starts complicating Elyse's work with clients, putting their friendship at risk. Just when Elyse considers firing her, Ron Davis announces he needs space, adding to Elyse's turmoil.
