On June 24, 1982, British Airways Flight 9 encounters a phenomenon known as St. Elmo's fire while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Perth. Shortly thereafter, the plane's four engines fail completely. As the aircraft descends, the skilled crew manages to restart the engines, ultimately bringing the plane down safely. The engine failures and St. Elmo's fire were triggered by ash clouds released from the Galunggung volcano in Indonesia during a significant eruption.
