Soviet officials attributed the Chernobyl disaster to operator mistakes, intentionally concealing a critical flaw in the reactor’s design. The makeshift shelter erected over the site quickly deteriorated, leading to the construction of a massive steel arch that encapsulated the ruins in 2016. However, in 2025, a Russian drone attacked the arch, jeopardizing the containment and risking new radiation leaks from a location that will remain hazardous for the next 20,000 years. Is there any possibility of restoring safety to this site?
