While he asserted that his heists were meant to benefit the less fortunate, the FBI was not convinced of his altruistic motives, recognizing him as a criminal rather than a hero. Chubbuck’s actions raised questions about his true intentions, as he continued to elude capture while amassing stolen wealth.
