In the early hours of September 9, 2002, pledges Kristin High and Kenitha Saafir waded into the turbulent ocean off the coast of Los Angeles, fully dressed, and tragically drowned. Authorities deemed the incident an accident; however, their families contended that it was a hazing ritual that had spiraled out of control.
