Syd encounters John Hemming's mother, only to discover that she disapproves of her. Meanwhile, Syd takes in a young girl who escapes the hospital in search of her family. Robbie offers a homeless man an opportunity to earn some money. Mrs. Hemming criticizes Syd's methods of assisting others. Jim finds himself caring for a monkey who scratches his head and communicates through sign language. Joanie contemplates the possibility of another pregnancy. To better understand Rocket, the monkey's behavior, Jim purchases a sign language dictionary, learning that Rocket is unwell and in need of support. Susan Fuller arrives to help Jim and Heather comprehend Rocket's distress, revealing that he feels homesick.
