Flint encounters four survivors from a brutal Indian massacre: the Ellison sisters and the Carder brothers. One of the sisters cannot hear or speak. The brothers are the last remaining members of their Army unit, with the older brother, Joe, eager to escape and seek gold for himself. Meanwhile, the younger brother, George, is kind-hearted but simple-minded, deeply devoted to Joe, who raised him. As Flint attempts to guide the group to safety, Joe tries to deceive the Ellison sisters into thinking Flint poses a threat to them.
