Mrs Proudie has resumed command, and the Bishop declares that Quiverful will be the new Warden of the hospital. Slope’s protests go unheard, along with his proposal that he himself become Dean. He now sees that his prospects are truly bleak. Harding is overjoyed to receive the offer of the Deanery, and his son-in-law and both daughters celebrate. But they are caught off guard by his reaction to the proposal. Taking Madeline Neroni’s counsel, Eleanor finally reveals her true feelings for Francis.
