Jane's spouse, Alexander, has teamed up with a new business partner, Joe Gruder, which raises Lovejoy's suspicions. When Jane receives a call from Lily Gruder, Joe's wife, regarding a troubling issue with pearls and a pawnbroker, Lovejoy takes it upon himself to investigate Joe's dealings. As he digs deeper, it becomes clear that Mr. Gruder isn't as reputable as he seems.
