Blaze Foley, a revered figure in country music yet largely unknown to the mainstream, made a significant impact on the Austin, Texas music scene before his untimely death. He was a formidable presence, possessing a sharp wit and a stunning voice, using songwriting as a means to confront his personal struggles. Blaze had a deep disdain for hypocrisy, coupled with a fondness for alcohol and duct tape. He formed a close bond with fellow singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt, both navigating their self-destructive paths together. Tragically, Blaze lost his life while defending a friend, but not before creating his masterpiece, “If I Could Only Fly.”
